Abstract

In this work, the current state of torrent-based illegal usage of Hallyu contents has been examined and analyzed with an aim for a proper countermeasure. A scientific inquiry on torrents has yet been attempted domestically, even though a vast variety of korean wave contents, from movies and drama to those including animations, musics, comics, novels, adult materials, is in circulation in the torrent form. Torrent is also used to send a single partnership content downloaded from a web-hard to tens of different illegal distribution paths. As it is on a peer-to-peer basis, tracing the circulation paths of the copyrighted materials has been especially difficult. Therefore, it is critical in protection of korean wave contents to develop copyrighted torrent technology via R&D.
