Abstract The researches on design convergence are the important issue in the 4th industrial revolution era. The method & objective of this study is to suggest the direction of the next generation convergence design based on the important issues and alternatives in each area, by analyzing the characteristics of the 4th industrial revolution and the design convergence of the 4th industrial revolution era. In the results of this study, in the 4th industrial revolution era, the intelligence-based convergence service design through the reinforcement of product service activity and CPS(Cyber Physical System), future value-oriented civil participatory smart urban design, creative convergence design of science and arts through the coexistence between ‘high-touch’ and ‘high-tech’, interdisciplinary major and team unit & on/offline cross education, industry-academia project partnership education, and science, arts, and design creative character education are important, it would be necessary to have the segmentalized researches as an alternative to each issue and area in the future. Especially, the main issues and alternatives of each area shown in the results of this study could be actively used for setting up the institutional guidelines of the next generation design convergence R&D, establishing the detailed direction, and drawing and applying the concrete expected effects to the market.  요약 4차 산업혁명 시대의 디자인융합 연구는 중요 이슈이다. 본 연구의 방법과 목적은 4차 산업혁명의 특징과 4차 산업혁명 시대의 디자인 융합을 분석하여 나타난 중요 이슈와 분야별 대안들을 토대로 차세대 융합디자인의 방향성을 제시하는데 있다. 연구 결과, 4차 산업혁명시대는 CPS(Cyber Physical System)와 제품의 서비스 활동 강화를 통한 지능 기반 형 융합 서비스디자인, 미래가치 지향 시민 참여 형 스마트 도시디자인, ‘하이터치’와 ‘하이테크’의 공생관계를 통한 과학과 예술의 창의적인 융합디자인, 연계전공 교육과 팀 단위 및 온 오프라인 교차교육, 산학 프로젝트 일체형 교육, 과학예술 및 디자인 창의 인성교육 등이 중요하므로 이에 대한 이슈와 분야별 대안으로 세분화된 향후 연구가 필요한 것을 알 수 있었다. 특히, 연구결과 나타난 중요 이슈와 분야별 대안들은 향후 차세대 디자인융합 연구개발(R&D)의 정책적 가이드라인 설정, 세부 방향성 구축, 시장에서의 구체적인 기대효과 도출과 적용에 적극 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
