초록
Abstract With changes in the structure of modern cities, theatre spaces have shifted from being closed, elite cultural institutions to open, participatory community cultural spaces.Based on an understanding of community theatre as a participatory movement that enhances cultural accessibility for marginalized residents and revitalizes local communities, this paper examines various contemporary and French cases of community theatres, exploring their characteristics and significance. First, the study analyzes the concept, historical background, and development of community theatre through relevant literature and previous research. It then explores global trends and cases of community theatres that reflect local nature, history, and culture, identifying three key spatial features of contemporary community theatres as local expressiveness, perceptibility, and openness. Next, the paper provides an in-depth analysis of three representative French community theatres—Le Lavoir Moderne Parisien (LMP), Compagnie Théâtre de l’Opprimé, and Théâtre du Peuple—focusing on their external forms, structural materials, internal programs, and relationships with local communities. The findings are presented as three main insights derived from each case. Based on this research, the study aims to contribute to the theoretical and practical discourse on community cultural spaces that embrace the memories, lives, and cultures of diverse generations, functioning as shared cultural spaces that evolve with the times.
