초록
This study investigates the formative transformation of ecofeminist discourse in contemporary fashion design. Ecofeminism, which critically examines the structural linkage between the domination of women and the domination of nature, has expanded beyond philosophical and ethical debates into various socio-cultural fields, including fashion. While early fashion practices in the late 1990s primarily expressed ecofeminist ideas through symbolic representations of nature and femininity, recent practices since the 2020s have increasingly translated such discourse into structural and practice-oriented design strategies. Based on a theoretical review of ecofeminism and sustainability discourse, this research establishes an analytical framework integrating formative elements and semantic dimensions. Through a comparative analysis of fashion cases from the late 1990s and from 2020 to the present, the study identifies a shift from symbolic representation to structural internalization. The findings suggest that ecofeminist discourse in contemporary fashion design has evolved into three transformative stages: symbolic representation, strategic design transition, and structural internalization. This transformation is characterized by material sustainability, structural restraint, life-cycle consciousness, and the expansion of ethical meaning within the design process. The study clarifies how ecofeminist discourse is translated into formative language and structural logic in fashion design, and proposes theoretical and practical implications for contemporary sustainable and ethical design practice.
